A fabulous flooring experience
What makes us differentAustralians have a real love of hard flooring in their homes, particularly timber or timber-look flooring styles. The timber reflects the beauty of the great outdoors, the character and rich colour palettes. When it comes to flooring options for your home, timber laminate flooring stands out as a versatile, affordable, and stylish choice. With its durability, ease of maintenance, and wide range of designs, laminate flooring can work wonders in every room of your house.
Let’s explore how laminate flooring can enhance the aesthetics and functionality of each space:
The entryway is the first impression guests have of your home, so why not make it memorable? Laminate wood flooring’s durability and resistance to scratches and stains make it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas like entryways as well as the increasingly popular mudoom. Plus, its easy-to-clean surface means you can spend less time worrying about dirt and debris and more time welcoming guests into your home (although always encourage a shoe-free home and make space in this area for shoe storage if possible!). For an entryway-specific read, we have gone into great detail on the blog.
The kitchen is often the heart of the home, bustling with activity and frequent foot traffic. Laminate flooring’s resistance to stains and scratches makes it an excellent choice for this high-traffic area. The excellent range of waterproof laminates is also worth noting, and in the kitchen, they make a great solution, with splashes of water and spills inevitable. Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or preparing a family meal, laminate floorboards provide a durable and easy-to-clean surface that can withstand the rigours of daily use.
In the living room, where comfort and style converge, laminate flooring offers the perfect balance of beauty and functionality. With its wide array of designs, including realistic wood patterns, laminate flooring can complement any décor style. Plus, its scratch-resistant surface ensures that your living room remains pristine, even in homes with children or pets. The living room is a place to relax, so channel your inner interior designer and layer a rug over your laminate wood flooring! It adds warmth, and comfort and protects the flooring underneath at the same time.
The bedroom is a sanctuary for rest and relaxation, and laminate flooring can help create a cosy and inviting atmosphere. Its soft underfoot feel and noise-reducing properties make it ideal for bedrooms, ensuring a peaceful night’s sleep. The carpet vs hard flooring in the bedroom debate is a hot topic! Carpet in bedrooms has many benefits but the seamless nature of one hard flooring style throughout the home does too. Remember rugs, strategically placed in the bedroom may be the compromise you’re looking for.
While laminate flooring may not be the first choice for wet areas like bathrooms and laundries, advancements in technology have made water-resistant laminate options available. With proper installation and maintenance, water-resistant laminate flooring can provide a stylish and durable flooring solution for your bathroom. Just be sure to wipe up spills promptly and avoid excessive water exposure to maintain its integrity. Flooring Xtra stores are well-equipped to point you in the right direction to help you find the perfect waterproof flooring product.
In today’s digital age, many homeowners are incorporating home offices into their living spaces or dedicated studies to work remotely. Laminate flooring offers a practical and stylish solution for these workspaces, providing a durable surface that can withstand the demands of daily use. Laminate flooring offers the perfect combination of comfort and functionality. Furniture that is commonly used in the space can have castor wheels as a design feature, such as an office chair. It’s a good idea to protect the flooring underneath (regardless of what style of flooring) with either a mat, rug or similar.
What is laminate flooring?
Laminate flooring is constructed from several layers to create the appearance of timber or stone. Laminate floors utilise cutting-edge photographic technology to simulate the grain, stain and texture of wood at a fraction of the price. It is highly resistant to scratches, dents and stains, with the top layer, known as the wear layer, usually made of an aluminium oxide or melamine resin which enhances it’s durability.
How to clean laminate flooring?
Laminate flooring requires maintenance, just as all flooring does. Read the Flooring Xtra Hard Flooring Care Guide to learn everything you need to know.
Are timber floors high maintenance?
Timber floors sit higher on the maintenance scale in the hard flooring world. But while laminate flooring, vinyl and hybrid flooring might require less maintenance, all flooring requires some level of care to keep it looking like new for longer. The look and feel of real timber is also aspirational, authentic and full of genuine character which can last for years if cared for. It also can be repaired in many cases, which is why we see beautiful old homes with original (restored, often) flooring.
Disclaimer: In some states of Australia, the building regulations for Vinyl Planks, Vinyl Tiles and Hybrid flooring varies. Meaning they may not be suitable for areas requiring water resistance, such as bathrooms and toilets. We advise to always ask your local Flooring Xtra store for the correct advice regarding the local regulations. We also advise to follow the manufacturer’s recommended installation instructions and guidelines, not following the instructions could make the product not fit for purpose, for the area it’s being installed into and void your product warranty. To ensure you get the appropriate product for those areas, please contact your local Flooring Xtra store.
