Like an architect building their dream home or an artist covering their walls with beautiful art, flooring showroom owners have the knowledge and passion to create beautiful flooring solutions when it comes to their own projects. Given their extensive knowledge and product selections at their fingertips every day, we were keen to know what Australia’s most successful showroom owners chose for their homes and why. Who better to ask than the winners from the inaugural Flooring Xtra Conference which just took place in sunny Queensland. Stores winners are selected from across the country who demonstrate outstanding customer service and sales, amongst other criteria.
WESTERN AUSTRALIAN STORE OF THE YEAR
Kelsey, from the Western Australian Bunbury store, reveals they had pet-friendly flooring in mind when they made their selection. “I have 5mm vinyl plank flooring that were installed in a new build in January. I love that they are soft underfoot, water resistant, easy to clean and pet-friendly!!! Great for when my dogs are running around after tennis balls in the house.”

In Queensland, we were keen to hear what the Gladstone store owners (and winners of the Australian Store of the Year!) selected for their holiday home. Owner Emma talked us through her selections. “We have recently had our holiday house (shack) renovated and installed Karndean Korlok in Canadian Urban Oak. Built on the sand we needed something flexible that would deal with subfloor movement while also looking the part, being easy to clean, water resistant, low maintenance and functional. We love it and the colour is absolutely perfect for the beach house décor.” It sounds heavenly! We’re waiting for our invitation…

Yamba store owners ponder their dream home filled with Flooring Xtra selections, from the floor up! “I would head straight for the beautiful 100% wool carpet by Cavalier Bremworth made from superior New Zealand wool. Then Karndean Van Gogh range timber style vinyl planking. It’s incredibly hard-wearing and is available in a wonderful colour palette. And of course, plantation shutters for indoor windows, panel blinds and roman blinds in beautiful textured fabrics and zip track blinds for the outdoor eating area.” We can’t help but think this would be the most stunning home…

Our South Australian store winners, South Adelaide really took the time to consider what their busy family (twin four-year-olds and a border collie– say no more!) needed in their home. Owner Genevieve explains. “At home, we have engineered oak planks from the Forest Retreat range in colour Pilliga through all living areas with a few jute rugs to soften the space. The stairs and bedrooms are carpeted in a deep charcoal wool. We wanted a wool carpet so choosing a darker colour felt like a great way to make it a really family-friendly choice. We’ve had the floors installed for a little over two years and love them. They’re timeless and tone well with a wide range of colours when changing little details to the décor of our home.”

Our last flooring expert comes from Proserpine where showroom owner Kristy is taking inspiration from their very own store for when they work on their dream home. “We love the ‘Forest Retreat – Soul Elements’ Range in the Blackbutt wide board, we have put this exact product on the wall in our showroom and it looks amazing and attracts a lot of positive attention. If we had the opportunity to put new flooring into our own home, we would use the Engineered Timber flooring range.”

What is laminate flooring?
Laminate floors utilise cutting edge photographic technology to simulate the stain, graining, and texture of wood for a fraction of the price. With laminate flooring you can easily add a touch of style and sophistication to any space. It’s also very durable and easy to care for.
What type of flooring is easiest to maintain?
All flooring requires some level of maintenance to ensure it will look good for a long time. All carpet and hard flooring should be swept or vacuumed regularly to remove grit and dirt from the surface (which can lead to scratches and marks). Laminate and vinyl floors are excellent low-maintenance hard flooring options while solution dyed nylon and polypropylene carpet are also resilient.
How do I maintain waterproof flooring?
Waterproof flooring is an incredible addition for those wanting a low-maintenance and easy-care lifestyle at home. All flooring needs to be cared for though, regardless of the material. Sweep or vacuum frequently to remove any dirt or grit (that might scratch the floor surface) and always mop up any spills as quickly as possible.
Disclaimer: In some states of Australia, the building regulations for Vinyl Planks, Vinyl Tiles and Hybrid flooring varies. Meaning they may not be suitable for areas requiring water resistance, such as bathrooms and toilets. We advise to always ask your local Flooring Xtra store for the correct advice regarding the local regulations. We also advise to follow the manufacturer’s recommended installation instructions and guidelines, not following the instructions could make the product not fit for purpose, for the area it’s being installed into and void your product warranty. To ensure you get the appropriate product for those areas, please contact your local Flooring Xtra store.
As Marketing Manager, Michelle is across all aspects of the entire product range. Her passion for Flooring Xtra means her knowledge extends from product details to full ranges, trends and more.
