It’s well known that Canberra can be on the chilly side in the winter months and having carpet in the bedrooms certainly adds a layer of warmth and comfort. Native Elegance in the colour Applewood was installed through the master, guest and children’s bedrooms in Gina’s home and the results speak for themselves.

“It’s completely changed the feel of the bedrooms in my home. The lighter colour makes the rooms feel larger, while the knotted wool texture adds a sense of luxury. Before the carpets were what I hated most and now they are my favourite feature. It’s smooth and soft, and the extra thick underlay adds to the cushioning underfoot.”

Choosing between hard and soft flooring in bedrooms can be one of the more difficult decisions when it comes to making selections. The flow of timber or timber look flooring from living spaces into bedrooms creates a seamless and modern feel yet carpet adds that comfort many are seeking in their interiors. Gina believes it was the right decision for her family in her home.

“Carpet is soft and warm underfoot. And wool is a great choice as it makes rooms feel cooler in summer and warmer in winter. Carpet also offers sound absorption – a big bonus when you’ve got young boys!”

When it comes to choosing the carpet itself, more decisions must be made. What colour? Style? Fibre type? Gina offers her tips for the selection process.

“My biggest tip would be to balance aesthetics with practicality and budget. With young children, I knew I wanted a hardwearing carpet and wool is naturally stain resistant. I also opted for a mid-colour with a lot of variation that would disguise everyday mess. Consider your lifestyle and be sure to seek the advice of the experts in the showroom. Oh, and be sure to take plenty of photos of your space with you as well as any swatches of paint and other finishes so you can colour match easily.”

As the cooler months linger, we couldn’t resist asking Gina what her winter styling tips for the bedroom were.  Her Instagram feed and blog are full of effortlessly inviting scenes many are hoping to replicate or be inspired by.

“Firstly, add plenty of layers! Layers cosy up a space as well as add a sense of visual warmth. Drape throw blankets over the foot of your bed or sofa, and use floor rugs, in richer or tactile fabrics. Secondly, embrace a grounding scent. Scent plays a big part in how we experience a space and using candles or diffusing oils with woody and spicy notes can be perfect for this time of year.”
