Selling Houses Australia Season 12, Episode 7 Recap
A Family Affair – Jamboree Heights
Episode seven of Selling Houses Australia brings a different family dynamic to the table. Two couples, two small children and many animals all living in the one property in suburban Brisbane. There are benefits of sharing a home and a mortgage across several family members, particularly with ever-increasing property prices and the opportunity to spend quality time with one another as lives become more and more hectic.
Jade and James bought their home in the Brisbane suburb of Jamboree Heights, which they now share with their two small children and Jade’s parents, who made the move across from Perth to be closer to their grandchildren and family. While this family clearly love spending time together, the home is stretched for space and both couples wish to upgrade to something separately. To do this, they need to sell- and sell well.
On the surface, the Jamboree Heights home looks neat enough, but there are several reasons potential buyers may be put off. Andrew, Shaynna and Charlie work together to tackle the issues which they believe are most important to address with a limited renovation budget. Their aim is to appeal to the young family market who don’t want to walk into a home requiring complex renovations. Addressing the dated facade, the menagerie of animals in the backyard and the confusing layout are some of the more pressing issues.
Charlie turns his attention to updating the front of the home, adding sandstone cladding and a fresh coat of paint. The backyard is de-petted and the pool and gardens tidied. Inside, Shaynna gives the downstairs area a much-needed bathroom renovation and styles with more appropriate furniture to suit the spaces. Upstairs, fresh paint, blinds, styling and new flooring (Karndean Vinyl in Pearl Oak) add a more contemporary feel.
One of the key issues Shaynna confronted in the interior upstairs was the inconsistent flooring. Having one flooring throughout gave the upstairs areas a more considered feel, moving away from the “homemade” renovation vibe. Consistent flooring connects spaces and creates a cohesive interior scheme. It looks neat, spacious and flows well- all important aspects when selling a home.
It didn’t take long for the freshly renovated home to sell for a price they were all happy with. Another successful job by the dream team!
