2018 Colour Predictions – Pantone’s Ultra Violet

Each year the colour giant, Pantone, release their predictions for the year ahead. They consider current world events, such as politics, cultural and environmental hot topics which inform their choice of colour. 2018, according to Pantone, will be Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple which is bold and unlike something we have seen in Interior Design for some time

The selection is a controversial one, with many considering the colour to be too bold, un-workable or stuck in the past. It is worthy of thought though, even as a small addition, like a cushion for example. It’s energising, spiritual and has close connections to the practice of mindfulness. Pantone believes that Ultra Violet is important in a fast-paced world, a relief from information overload and continuous screen time.
There are many ways you can incorporate Ultra Violet into your home. If you love the colour, paints and wallpapers are excellent options. For décor pieces, try a rug or upholstered chair or ottoman. For those who like the colour but are uncertain how it will work, smaller objects, like a vase, throw rug or even fresh purple flowers will suit.
