Fix My Ugly Floor: Real Life Stories
Published: October 25, 2017When we put the call out for the ugliest floorings in Australia we were overwhelmed with the responses that poured through. From stained, pattered and worn carpets through to timbers that had seen far better days. Choosing the worst of the worst was a difficult task indeed, in fact, we decided to run with two winners. These lucky winners received new flooring at no charge to transform their homes from drab and old to fresh and new.
Wendy from Euroa was one of the winners who couldn’t believe her luck when she found out that she was successful.
“Our home is a 1940’s home that we bought 31 years ago it’s a very small four-bedroom home that we have brought four children up in. We still have three of them at home, the youngest just turned 18. The boys really took a toll on the house and we had decided we weren’t going to do any renovations apart from the kitchen and bathroom until they had grown up and most likely moved out.”
“Brian who laid the carpet with an apprentice did a wonderful job. I loathed my house before and now I love it, it’s so soft to walk on, it’s easy to vacuum- it’s just beautiful. I was shocked when I got that email congratulating me, I was ecstatic. I really needed this, it’s changed our house so much and the timing was so perfect.”
Wendy was surprised with how much she was able to get done within her budget, as well as in the carpet of her choice.“I thought I would only have enough to do the boys rooms and maybe the hallway. But when the team from the Shepparton store came over to measure, they said we could have the wool carpet throughout.” It has changed their home to one that they’re happy to live in.
The carpet was certainly worse for wear, with a household filled with active boys, an old cat and years of general wear and tear. “The old carpet was revolting and I always tried not to let people in the house I was so embarrassed by it. It was stained and no matter what I did I couldn’t get the smell out. Then I got an email about the competition, I just knew it was for me.”
