Scratched, damaged vinyl, carpet that would be right at home in an Austin Powers film set and tiles from your grandmother’s house. All three right in the front entry- what a welcome home each day! For Sharon and her family, updating the flooring in this space has been on the “to-do” list for so long, so when she saw the Fix My Ugly Floor competition she thought she would try her luck.

Fix My Ugly Floor is an annual competition that invites the worn, damaged and just plain ugly floors of Australia to be submitted for the chance to win the ultimate make-over. For Flooring Xtra, it was the combination of not one, but three ugly flooring styles in the same space that made the application stand out from the rest (and there were many, truly wonderful entries this year!).

“We are very excited that we have won the competition! The lino is well and truly had it. It’s full of scratches and scuff marks and the carpet is past its use-by date and has faded patches and wear marks. We have lived in our home for 29 years and we have been wanting to replace the flooring for a very long time.” Sharon, homeowner.

The entry is like a time capsule of the family’s life in their much-loved home (and a history lesson in past styles and fashions!). The new flooring, whatever that may be, will add to that story in a beautifully.

“The entry is still the original ugly tiles from when the house was built. We put the lino down about 22 years ago as it was all carpet in the dining room and kitchen. We can’t wait to get new flooring as the house has needed a freshen up for years- we’re so looking forward to having a brighter, new feel to the house.”
