Iconic Renovations and Flooring Transformations Across Memorable Episodes
Selling Houses Australia is deep into its 18th series- what a milestone! With the recent airing of its 200th episode, we’re taking a moment to reflect on some favourite renovations featuring Flooring Xtra products. From urban retreats to coastal escapes, these episodes showcase how the right flooring choices can truly elevate a home. Read on for highlights from standout transformations!
Nestled among the leafy treetops, the Hornsby Heights home was initially a medley of mismatched styles and cramped rooms, with an awkward floor plan. After a thoughtful redesign, interiors expert Wendy aimed to brighten up the spaces and embrace those spectacular views. Inspired by the natural surroundings, the renovation featured earthy tones and textures.
Bedrooms were given a lift with Belleza Orsano Pumice carpet. Practical, beautiful, and suited to daily life. The real showstopper was the new open-plan living and kitchen, seamlessly connected by a versatile laminate floor. This durable surface promises to be a winner for future homeowners. To complete the look, an Atrium Natural Jute Polo rug and Harlow Hunter in Natural added warmth and depth, making the space feel inviting and cohesive.
In Jindabyne, the Flooring Xtra team helped breathe new life into a historic schoolhouse, now a cherished home. The facelift paid homage to the building’s heritage and the beautiful alpine surrounds. Dundee laminate, with its rich timber-grain finish, was installed in the living and kitchen areas, adding visual interest and practical appeal. For bedrooms, wool carpet from New Zealand created a cosy, luxurious haven, perfect for this winter holiday escape. This renovation became a standout for the team, blending tradition with modern comfort and style.
The season finale at Dolphin Point introduced us to the Blakey family, long-time residents living the quintessential Aussie beach lifestyle. Their home, full of charm and ocean views, needed a refresh to help achieve a life-changing move. The floorplan was transformed by knocking down and adding walls, creating functional spaces and much-needed privacy. A fresh kitchen and stylish main bathroom added real family appeal, while new paint and thoughtful styling tied everything together.
Coastal living and time had taken a toll on the floors. Flooring Xtra’s engineered boards offered the ideal solution. Bringing casual elegance with unmatched practicality. Resistant to sand and grit, the timber flooring brought authenticity and gorgeous variation among the boards. The renovation was capped off by improvements to the outdoor spaces, and, after barely drying the paint, an offer of $1.2 million gave the Blakeys the chance to seek vital medical treatment for their son. This episode was a fitting end to the season, delivering an excellent result for a deserving family.
For the landmark 200th episode, Selling Houses Australia rallied behind Amelia and James, dedicated paramedics facing tough times due to their young twins’ illness. With hospital trips to Sydney and mounting stress, the family needed urgent help to sell their Central Coast home.
Wendy and Dennis led a heartfelt community-driven makeover, supported by local volunteers and tradespeople. Flooring Xtra products featured prominently: Monteverde Meadow carpet in the bedrooms for comfort and durability, Mooloolaba laminate in “Cove” colour for stylish, low-maintenance living spaces, and the Mirage Moroccan 351 rug in the lounge room for a touch of luxury. This collaborative renovation delivered an unforgettable result, helping Amelia and James move forward during a challenging chapter.

What is a hybrid flooring?
Hybrid flooring combines the attributes of vinyl and laminate flooring. It features the rigidity of laminate flooring (meaning it can be installed in a floating system) and the wear layer performance characteristics of vinyl planks (very resilient!). It’s a great option for busy family homes.
Is laminate flooring professionally installed?
Flooring is best installed by professionals who are highly skilled and experienced. They have all the necessary equipment and are there to troubleshoot any issues that may arise.
Why choose engineered timber oak flooring?
Engineered boards are beautiful to look at as they’re made from layers of real timber. The character, markings and personality of natural timber shine through and add something to the interior design that’s authentic (although there are lots of great timber-look alternatives!). They’re relatively easy to maintain and are quick to install.
Why choose mid-range timber flooring over lighter or darker tones?
Mid-tone timber styles offer a warmth and charm to homes both modern and classic. They are easy to live with and accessorise and will be timeless in appeal. They can also highlight natural timber markings beautifully. They wont feel enclosed like some darker products might nor will they show dirt and pet hairs as easily as a light timber floor.
