A Tired, Cat-filled Normanhurst Home Receives Much Needed Star Treatment
One episode into the twelfth Selling Houses Australia season and we’re already enjoying the collaboration! Seeing our beautiful products installed into some of the most interesting projects is a treat, including the minimal (read, stripped bare) home of cat-loving Lynn in Sydney’s Normanhurst.
After 38 years in her home, Lynn had the property on the market for 6 months before realising she may need some professional advice in a slowing Sydney market. While the home sits on a gorgeous, leafy street in an aspirational suburb, the home lacked many things, such as a street appeal. The interior had suffered at the hands of Lynn’s daughter, who believed the “less is more” approach would be superior to the existing shabby furniture (in reality, possibly not!). That, coupled with a high list price meant potential buyers were heading for the hills…

Enter the dream team (Shaynna, Charlie and Andrew) to convince Lynn to invest $50,000 of her money to lift the home and generate some interest. Shaynna wove her magic on the interior, creating a more open and cleaner scheme. Paint, a new kitchen and flooring enhanced the properties solid bones while the finishing touch of styling helped the buyers imagine how the spaces could be utilised.

Our engineered timber boards in Oak opened up and lightened the entryway and living spaces while the lounge room benefited from fresh new carpet and a rug. Other rugs of ours could be seen throughout the house, including the Miller Stone Aztec in the master bedroom which added pattern and warmth.

Outdoors, the property was already blessed by a beautiful native outlook and the recent addition of a deck. Charlie added some new stairs and tidied up some loose ends to create street appeal. With the promise of keeping the home neat and feline-free, Lynn was confident the money she invested was well spent. As soon as the facelift was complete, a local agent was able to sell the home in just 2 weeks! Well done to all involved, we’re so excited to see what the next episode brings…

FAQs
What is a pet-friendly rug?
A pet-friendly rug is a must in a home with dogs and cats! Look for attributes such as washable features, anti-stain qualities and non-loop pile fibres (for pet paws to get caught in).
Where is there a rug store near me?
The Flooring Xtra rug store means you can choose a rug online and have it sent directly to you! With so many options to select from and free delivery, it’s a great way to shop.
Are timber floors high maintenance?
Timber floors sit higher on the maintenance scale in the hard flooring world. But while laminate flooring, vinyl and hybrid flooring might require less maintenance, all flooring requires some level of care to keep it looking like new for longer. The look and feel of real timber is also aspirational, authentic and full of genuine character which can last for years if cared for. It also has the ability to be repaired in many cases, that is why we see beautiful old homes with original (restored, often) flooring.
