Tips for a Beachside Bliss Home Tour in 2024

On Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula sit many beautiful homes within equally beautiful townships. With no shortage of luxury homes on the market, it was this gem that caught the eye of Satara’s (a luxury furniture and homewares company) owners, Colleen and Andrew. With a refined eye, they could predict this would be the perfect weekender with some minor tweaks and many, many pieces from their wonderful and extensive collection of products.

A fresh take on the home was applied, with style notes taken from both their own range of products and their love of travel. In particular, the Mediterranean vibe was sought. A relaxed, effortless and comfortable interior with a focus on a tonal palette and heavy on texture. Flooring Xtra was happy to come on board to provide a flooring solution to meet both their aesthetic and practical requirements. After all, a holiday home should look great but not be precious. With the proximity to the beach and love of the outdoors, the home needed to respond to these demands.

Azolla carpet in Corin was the perfect carpet for the upstairs living spaces and bedroom. The textured loop pile is incredibly tactile while also being practical with its solution dyed nylon carpet fibre. Teamed back with soft linen bedding, light timbers and minimal adornments, the spaces are relaxing and don’t detract from the tea trees swaying in the breeze out of the generously proportioned windows.

Merseyside XXL hybrid flooring in Crosby Oak runs throughout the living spaces into the kitchen. As a waterproof product, the flooring seamlessly runs from the front door to the back with no concerns of damage in both the kitchen and wet feet off the beach. The cool tones of the boards highlight the Mediterranean look and feel while being incredibly hardwearing and easy to care for. The perfect solution. To soften the hybrid timber flooring, Flooring Xtra rugs were selected to compliment. Jute rugs and natural fibre rugs were chosen to add interest but also bring comfort underfoot indoors.

The home is a real pleasure to be in. The low-key floor plan, the pared-back palette and the considered restraint when it comes to the furniture allow the garden and surrounds to be the star. This, however, does not take away from the beauty of the interior. Each space, finish and fitting was chosen with care and will be a well-loved weekender for many years to come.

Tips for creating a coastal interior design style at home

Use a Light, Airy Colour Palette

Stick to soft, natural shades like whites, creams, sandy beiges, and ocean-inspired blues and greens. These colours mimic the beach and sea, creating a calming, breezy vibe. The homeowners have stuck to their natural palette, and an effortless vibe is felt the moment you walk through the front door.

Incorporate Natural Materials

Choose furnishings and decor made from rattan, jute, linen, driftwood, and light-toned timber. These textures add warmth and echo the raw beauty of coastal environments.

Embrace Relaxed, Casual Furnishings

Coastal style is all about comfort. Go for oversized sofas, slipcovers, and layered cushions in neutral tones to create a laid-back, inviting atmosphere.

Indoor Outdoor

The outdoor area in this coastal home is just as important as the interior, and the flow from both is a focus. We love how they have incorporated an outdoor rug to add a layer of comfort underfoot.

Add Coastal-Inspired Accents

Decorate with subtle coastal elements such as beach finds. Photography was a big part of the decorating in this home, mostly focusing on European coastal scenes.  Just be careful not to overdo it—coastal style should feel effortless, not theme-heavy.

FAQs

How do I maintain waterproof flooring?

Waterproof flooring is an incredible addition for those wanting a low-maintenance and easy-care lifestyle at home. All flooring needs to be cared for though, regardless of the material.
