Fix My Ugly Floor Winner 2022

The annual Fix My Ugly Floor competition has consistently brought entries in abundance making it a tough job to choose a winner. There are many reasons that people have lived with worn, dated and sometimes broken flooring too with then homeowners’ stories as influential as the state of flooring in the winner selection process. In 2022 the winner of the Fix My Ugly Floor competition was Margaret, who had lived in her home with its original flooring for 64 years. The transformation of new flooring has not only changed the appearance of the home but the comfort and livability as well.
Margaret and her daughter Lyn told us just before Christmas that the original vinyl, patterned and well-worn had “served its time.” Replaced with Mapleton Falls carpet she now enjoys placing her feet on the floor straight out of bed. “It’s so soft!” She said. She also explained the other practical benefits of the new flooring. The draft was minimised and the rooms were warmer, a particularly useful outcome in the winter months of country Victoria where Margaret lives. While the rooms benefit from the warmth and comfort they also changed how the rooms appeared. The newly carpeted bedroom and Hybrid throughout the living, kitchen and bathroom spaces have dramatically changed the perception of space as well. “It feels a lot brighter and warmer and the rooms feel bigger” explained Margaret.

The easy-to-live-with hybrid flooring installed (Merseyside Classic) has streamlined the home with pattered and damaged flooring there previously created a visual disruption. Both Margaret and her daughter were impressed with the installation process. “The hard flooring was amazing to watch. So efficient!” Margaret was able to remain in the comfort of her home during the selection process too with the team from Elite Flooring Xtra visiting with their samples and expertise. Mapleton Falls solution dyed nylon carpet has made a significant improvement to the look and feel of this bedroom.

Margaret’s new flooring has prompted some further changes and renovations, as so often happens when one element is repaired or upgraded. Fresh paint and a new bathroom sink have been installed to create a bright and updated feel. Her appreciation of the Flooring Xtra team from selection to installation was obvious and she was keen to let them know. “Thank you very much and Merry Christmas!” Margaret said as we finished up the interview. We’re so happy you’re happy Margaret!

Choosing new carpet for your home is a big decision and there’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Every home and family are different. Do you have pets? Small children? Is your home a holiday rental? Each carpet fibre and structure lends itself to a different look and budget and you can read more about them all in our Carpet Guide.
Where can I buy carpet?
Flooring Xtra have a wide range of carpets across varying price, fibre and style categories, with stores conveniently located Australia-wide! To find your nearest Flooring Xtra store you can use our Store Finder.
What is a hybrid flooring?
Hybrid flooring combines the attributes of vinyl and laminate flooring. It features the rigidity of laminate flooring (meaning it can be installed in a floating system) and the wear layer performance characteristics of vinyl planks (very resilient!). It’s a great option for busy family homes.
