A fabulous flooring experience
What makes us differentPerched in the bush above the Burleigh coast, The Cabin, a photoshoot location and short term stay accommodation space couldn’t be more restorative and blissful if it tried. Designed and built to maximise the benefits of the surrounding nature, The Cabin features a palette of warm and character-filled materials including Flooring Xtra engineered oak timber flooring. It’s a space that encourages visitors to momentarily stop and take in the beauty on offer.
Michelle, the owner of The Cabin and Skyline Burleigh, another location hire property shared her vision for the space and what can be expected once entering the gorgeous cabin-like building.
“At The Cabin you’re completely surrounded by nature. There’s koalas, wallaby’s and kookaburras calling. The Cabin is a different vibe (to Skyline). It has a darker aesthetic that’s more cabin-like, cosy and even a bit masculine.”
While a structure existed prior to what The Cabin is today, the building and modern cabin interior design couldn’t be more different, essentially unrecognisable.
“The Cabin was an abandoned pool house which we have transformed, adding a bathroom and kitchen, fireplace and cosy living space. The stone-clad fireplace and pitched ceiling are features in Skyline and The Cabin, becoming a focal point of the interior design in both spaces. It really has set the tone.”
The new timber flooring plays an important role in the cabin design, where it had to be incredibly practical, resilient, and easy to care for. It also needed to work back with the other materials and finishes to create a harmonious feel. Michelle selected Quick-Step Amato Creamy White Oak Extra Matt engineered boards from Flooring Xtra and couldn’t be happier with the finished result.
“The colour is perfect! As the property is used as an Airbnb be needed the flooring to be durable and waterproof. We’re in Queensland so that means coming inside straight off the beach or pool or outdoor shower. Being practical, guests will likely be coming inside with damp feet and clothes, and we wanted to accommodate that.”
Burleigh Heads Flooring Xtra assisted with the installation, creating smooth process for Michelle during her renovation process.
“The team were incredibly helpful and the installation was seamless, they really went above and beyond!”
As we were speaking, the very first Airbnb guests were arriving. While The Cabin has already been utilised as a shoot and event location, Michelle was excited to switch into host mode and welcome the first of no doubt, many visitors.

Are timber floors high maintenance?
Timber floors sit higher on the maintenance scale in the hard flooring world. But while laminate flooring, vinyl and hybrid flooring might require less maintenance, all flooring requires some level of care to keep it looking like new for longer. The look and feel of real timber is also aspirational, authentic and full of genuine character which can last for years if cared for. It also has the ability to be repaired in many cases, which is why we see beautiful old homes with original (restored, often) flooring.

In some states of Australia, the building regulations for Vinyl Planks, Vinyl Tiles and Hybrid flooring varies. Meaning they may not be suitable for areas requiring water resistance, such as bathrooms and toilets. We advise to always ask your local Flooring Xtra store for the correct advice regarding the local regulations. We also advise to follow the manufacturer’s recommended installation instructions and guidelines, not following the instructions could make the product not fit for purpose, for the areas being installed into and void your product warranty. To ensure you get the appropriate product for those areas, please contact your local Flooring Xtra store.
