Feature Project: Beachside Chic

With so many Australians aspiring to live by the water, it’s no surprise that when this homeowner inspected the property, she could see past the dated details and knew it was the apartment she had been searching for. With its Bayside location in Melbourne and the enviable lifestyle that comes with being so close to the water, owner, Eileen @eileencassidy_, embarked on a renovation to reflect a casual, coastal vibe.
The renovation addressed the colours, finishes and surfaces, without making any structural changes to the layout. “You could tell the place was quite old and needed some love. The first thing I knew I needed to do was to change the floors”
Eileen wanted a bright and breezy apartment which would be easy to maintain to fit around her busy schedule. She also wanted it to feel like a cosy retreat to escape her busy life of travel and work. She worked with Flooring Xtra to select a palette which could tick all of the boxes, both from a practicality perspective as well as aesthetic.
“I immediately knew I wanted The Hinterland hybrid floorboards. The lightness of the board
Complemented the white walls and tied in very well with my furniture. It was the carpet that took me a while to decide. I knew I wanted a soft feel carpet and the minute I felt SNUG I knew it was the one!”

The results speak for themselves. Dappled light filters through crisp white shutters into a living space which is carefully considered. Indoor plants and artworks give life to the rooms, while the new flooring provides a solid base for the new scheme.
Eileen considered each and every piece she brought into the home. She created a palette first so making all purchasing decisions was easier. Before embarking on a renovation, create a mood board or enlist the help of an expert to help you with a scheme.
