A fabulous flooring experience
What makes us differentIn the sleepy beachside hamlet of Merricks, buildings ranging from the classic coastal shack to the more recently renovated line the unassuming roads. One particular home has been in the Wierzbowski family for many years, enjoyed by several generations. The simple house is well-loved, and the flooring reflects this. Worn and dated carpet throughout was enough for our judge Designer, James Treble, to pick this home to receive a complimentary makeover in the annual Fix My Ugly Floor competition.
Homeowner James was keen to lighten the spaces, which can be quite dark throughout certain times of the day. Being relatively close to the beach, another requirement was for the flooring to be resilient to the inevitable sand and wear that the location will bring.
James and his energetic dog Chilli couldn’t be happier with their new carpet in the bedrooms, a far cry from the mustard plush pile that once covered the entire home. Corfu carpet, in the colour Serenity, was installed which is extremely durable without compromising on style or comfort. Produced using Eco+ Triexta yarn, it proved to be an excellent selection, with the colour a perfect way to freshen up the rooms.
The living area floors were also replaced, with Hinterland Hybrid, in Northern Blackbutt a gorgeous addition. The Australian species colour draws the outside in and the resilient nature of hybrid minimises any stress of damage by pets, water and everything else that a coastal home endures.
Karen from the Westernport Flooring Xtra store was able to help James through the selection process to find a practical flooring solution which would help lighten the rooms and complement the retro beach house vibes which hold so many memories for James and his family. We’re sure this facelift will be enjoyed for many years to come!
What type of flooring is easiest to maintain?
All flooring requires some level of maintenance to ensure it will look good for a long time. All carpet and hard flooring should be swept or vacuumed regularly to remove grit and dirt from the surface (which can lead to scratches and marks). Laminate and vinyl floors are excellent low-maintenance hard flooring options while solution dyed nylon and polypropylene carpet are also resilient.
What hard flooring is good for pets?
Scratch resistant flooring works well when living with pets. Keep pet claws and paws in check to minimise any scratching and read our hard flooring and pet guide to find the perfect flooring solution for your furry friends!
