Flooring advice from 5 of our favourite renovators, designers and stylists

Sally is someone used to sharing her life and experience online with her blog and instagram handle recently sharing a renovation at home. Showcasing her gorgeous family and excellent taste, a loyal following on social media are consistently on the lookout for what Sally is working on as it’s guaranteed to be a visual feast! She recently spoke to us about her renovation where our gorgeous laminate flooring was installed throughout. “When making the BIG decision to replace all existing flooring in our home, we were looking for something that would be aesthetically pleasing, whilst at the same time easy to clean and durable (in a home filled with three young boys!)” said Sally. She selected wide board laminate in grey oak which ticked all the boxes and has definitely lived up to its expectation.

Interior Designer and media personality, James Treble recently chatted to serial renovators Andrew and Rachael from Lover Dreamer who are building their fourth home in four years, this time on the Central Coast of NSW. “In the bedrooms, you’re looking to have a carpet, tell us about the carpet you have chosen.” Asked James. “We’ve chosen and Urban Instinct carpet which is a lovely charcoal grey textured wool loop carpet pile. With two young children, I sway more to darker coloured carpets! Wool carpet provides natural insulation and I love the texture underfoot that loop piles bring.”

In Canberra, Gina from online style guide Style Curator (@StyleCuratorAU) has also been busy utilising our products in one of her projects. A townhouse in the inner-south of Canberra had dated brown carpet, which was ripped up and replaced with Flooring Xtra engineered timber flooring in Blackbutt A neutral palette was devised to allow for a modern family home. Whites and greys are punctuated with the warmth of timber floors throughout. “The new flooring made all the difference. It feels bigger and more modern while being easier to maintain with Bonnie’s (the client’s) beloved dog. It’s also set the Scandinavian style for the rest of the home.”

Are timber floors high maintenance?

Timber floors sit higher on the maintenance scale in the hard flooring world. But while laminate flooring, vinyl and hybrid flooring might require less maintenance, all flooring requires some level of care to keep it looking like new for longer. The look and feel of real timber is also aspirational, authentic and full of genuine character which can last for years if cared for. It also has the ability to be repaired in many cases, that is why we see beautiful old homes with original (restored, often) flooring.

Why choose engineered timber oak flooring?

Engineered boards are beautiful to look at as they’re made from layers of real timber. The character, markings and personality of natural timber shine through and add something to the interior design that’s authentic (although there are lots of great timber-look alternatives!). They’re relatively easy to maintain and are quick to install.

What are carpet beetles?

Carpet beetles are pesky critters that can cause havoc on your beautiful flooring. They can come inside hiding on fresh flowers or through open windows and doors.
